back from my trip abroad, i return home to my family visiting me in londontown, for my nan's birthday. i give her a pressie i got from disney (an xmas tree decoration) and then we head to buckingham palace for its open day to tour the state rooms and see the wedding dress kate middleton aka prince william's new wifey wore for her wedding. it was really good and bit surreal walking round the palace.we then went to the new westfield stratford which was mega busy but nice. it had a forever 21, which made me very happy. so not much time for doodles, shall make up tomorrow when i have more time!

the day before was packing and then a trip on the eurostar to paris!i'm gonna write a bit then put all four days drawings up one after the other!
a long journey and lots of tv shows later we arrive at the hotel where we can see the earful tower in disney from our hotel window :D then we head straight off on the train into central paris for dinner and drinks which is lovely but the usual 'no veggie food' in paris prevails and i end up with a very plain risotto. the next dya we are up and out early as we have a free shuttle to disneyland and an early entry pass woo!did i mention this week is like the hottest of the year so it is boiling hot for a late september holiday!after getting and going straight on space mountain 2, which is insane we head round the park acting the tourists!loved the runaway train the best, think its the best one at any of the disneyland parks. we manage to get round a lot of the park and then head in the sister park walt disney studios and go on the tower of terror which is awesome as always!after heading out into downtown disney for a well deserved beer at the end of the day.
the next day we head into paris and go up the eiffel tower.i say go up, we actually walked up!at least til the 2nd floor then got the lift to the very top.its strange to think the last time i came here was 10 years ago on our last school trip before we left school. time does fly! we then went to the catacoombes which was amazing, loads and loads of dead bodies all under the paris streets in creepy dim tunnells!horror movie stuff indeed! we then wandered round the city til late.the next day was another day in disneyland and we got on everthing we missed on the other day. i managed to buy myself a lovely new yoda stitch teddy and some pins for the collection :) then we sadly had to make our way back to the eurostar.all in all a great break!

well well well if it isn't simon pig!a more realistic version of him. he came with us on our trip and enjoyed disneyland immensly. he oinked in my ear he wants to go to the florida or LA version next!

right heres where the blog was almost halted for a while due to injury! and i still have the scars!basically this is why i shouldn't cook ever ever ever!

i was tasting some cooked syrup and some dripped off the spoon, now the idiot in me suddenly thought, quick catch it don't make a mess, which is very dumb as the syrup was boiling hot!and burnt 3 holes into my hands, now the pain came over in slow motion so i tried to wipe it, spreading the hot further and then finally hit the tap and the cold beautiful water.well after a good few hours of cooling, i realised i had really done a bad burn. across my right (drawing hand) palm too so closing my hand was a no no.it was horrendously painful and took a month to heal up, with creams and plasters and it hurt like hell.don't try to catch hot syrup!!!!!!!!so here is my left handed scrawl as i sat with my hand ina jug of water.doh!

i was curious about the compare the market meercat soft toys being given out, so much so, i wanted some insurance to get one :P however thats a bit extreme so i instead had a looksie on ebay and mother of god how expensive are the little critters!£83.52 one was going for!and the others were all similar! :/ won't be getting one of them then!which is a shame as they are sooo cute! anyho i drew a meercat who looks a bit dubious about being sold on ebay!

harry prickler! saw the last harry potter movie, no credit but did help work on it which was awesome.we did a smaller amount on this film, as it was mainly one big action scene.mainly some spiders and fight scene stuff and then the end of the film where harry 'dies' and meets dumbledor in the kings cross heaven area.

at the next museum, the museum of london :) which was really good and in a new area of london that i hadn't visited, the barbican. a really interesting history of the city, including black death and the great fire of london and some history of disease and hospitals and all sorts of things. the war section was very thourough and had a good film that was both sad and amazing.

day 179 was done in the wellcome museum, as they had a wall where you picked two words and drew a representation of them.i chose unicorn and alcohol.so i drew a drunk unicorn!unfortunatly, i drew it for the museum so its up on the wall there.i took a photo of it on my crappy phone and hope to work out how to transfer it to here soon (i don't have a fancy smartphone!) so in the meantime is the crappy mickey mouse i drew saying that the real drawing is in photo form!

Right! The dog was a very quick sketch as Friday night was spent getting very boozy on wine with my Mum and Penny in some fabulous bars! Was an amazing night very funny but omg did I get ill!

The next day I couldn't move but I had to snap out of it as me and Mum were going to see Take That! Something we've both dreamed of doing since I was a girl and we were mega excited! We've been to see Robbie solo several times and he has been amazing (Knebworth remains one of the best gigs this gigaholic has had the privalage to witness, also one of the biggest!). We also are massive Robbie fans so were very excited at the re-united band, as we remember them. It brought back a lot of fun (and embaressing clothing) memories. My 'I Heart Robbie' red tshirt I wore for PE at school being one! So I figured in honour of travelling back in time, I drew a version of me at age 9 and a half, loving TT the first time :-)
By the way, Take That were awesome! They put on a fantastic and spellbinding show, and seeing them all together after all these years made us soooo happy :)

After all that excitement the weekend wasn't over........ After watching my childhood favourites perform, by a stroke of luck I then had the chance to see my beloved favourite band in the entire world the next day at Milton Keynes Bowl....... FOO FIGHTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

161- After Mum got up and got the train home, I headed into work for the morning (as deadlines loom and don't allow weekends off boo!) while Nat and Sarah made their way up to Camden from Pompey. Then Us and Bjarni had some lunch and travelled to MK. We had some beers, watched Jimmy Eat World then settled on the slope to watch the Foo's be awesome! We stood back as it was the 3rd time of seeing them this year and the crush to the front was insane. We enjoyed the show soooo much, they were absolutely fab and I splashed out and bought a Foo hoodie which is lovely and snuggly warm! Awesome day!

So to mirror yesterday's drawing of me in 1995, I junped forward 16 years to 2011 and me now, being just as excited for Foos!

155-our flat got flooded tonight :( which sucked major ass.what started as the sound of 'rain' turned into the ceiling pouring through water in a matter of minutes. luckily all our stuff was moved out the way pronto so no material possession damage but the flat took a bit of a beating and needed extensive drying out. so after the fire brigade got into the upstairs flat and turned the water off and i'd calmed down a bit (and grabbed some clothing) we left camden and headed to west kensington to stay with penny and damo who kindly took us in. very awful evening! heres the drawing done admittedly very early the next morning that captures how i felt.

todays post represents the problem i've been having with my knee for 6 months :( after tripping over a paving stone in october on the way to work to finally going to a doctor and having various test/xrays, ive found out i have torn and bruised the tendons that join my knee together. this sucks as the physio thinks because of my talapes i had as a child in that leg (damn docs should have fixed it when i was a baby) which means my leg is twisted and i don't distribute my weight correctly due to a turned knee and ankle, its making it harder to heal.
these two drawings show how it hurts before the codiene and how numb and good it feels after...maybe a bit extreme but its how i feel lol!

the festival was great and a great laugh as usual.we had quite a large group of us and plenty of booze...2 wine, 1 cup....alan!foos were fantastic as usual and the sunday was soooooooooooooo wet (as demonstrated in my days doodle!) absolutely rained like mad was crazy wet all day.it didn't spoil the fun though and i'm still trying to get rid of the dodgy tan lines from it!heres to iow 2012!

my knee has been causing me agony so back to docs i went on an emergency appointment who then sent me to the hospital for xrays :/ luckily nothing broken but back to the docs for more tests to find out whats wrong eeeekkkk. so i drew my doc who took my xray!bear style!

back to pompey for a night out for sarah's birthday which was fabulous!had to be a quiet one as i was also home for zena's hen weekend in bristol so an early morning train awaited me!
so i drew the star child from kiss (animal style) to represent sarah's obsession with all things 'star' (the shape) related!

zena's hen! bristol is fab, we had an amazing cocktail making class in vodka revolutions then dinner at zizi's, then party games and the introduction of roger...

there he is strutting his stuff heheh! who then came with us on the night out round bristol!a great evening with lots of penis related things.i drew this before we went out:
day 126: back from bristol after looking round the touristy places and then straight off to a gig at the wedgewood rooms!one of my fave artists in the world, frank turner.we even got to meet him after!drew a baby cos i saw my baby cousin matthew inbetween train and gigging!

Moving off Johnny English Reborn this Friday after a lot of hard work and onto Sherlock Holmes 2 for the final push to delivery. The film looks great am excited about working on the second film as I did a little bit on the first and really liked the film. And a chance to stare at RDJ and Jude Law all day wooo! An improvement on Mr Bean's face that's for sure!

chip chip chip chip n dale...rescue rangers.....chip chip chip chip chip n dale when theres danger!!!!!!!!
my favourite tv show as a kid was chip n dale rescue rangers, i loved it, i loved it so much i followed chip n dale round magic kingdom when i went to disney world at 10, desperate for a photo and their autographs!i bought my most treasured possessions on that trip, my rescue ranger teddies. 15 years old and they will never leave my side, along with billy bear and snoopy!sad but everyone has a special item that that means a lot to them, mine happens to be two chipmunks!

anyway i found out that a independant comic had gained the rights to classic disney afternoon shows to turn into comics. if you are a child of the 80's/early 90's you will remember the disneytime lineup of ducktails, gummi bears, chip n dale, darkwing duck, tailspin, wuzzles and many more! these were good quality disney shows that wipe the floor with any of the crap thats on the disney channel now. anyway they have started a darkwing duck comic and more importantly.................a rescue rangers one!!!!!!!!!!!!obviously i had to get hold of an issue so off to forbidden planet me and ian went and luckily they had one!the art is great, i also grabbed 2 issues of darkwing duck and felt disney inspired. so i drew my fave animal in a rescue ranger stylee!

late one at the office, doing snow squibs again ahhh!so i drew a posh boy whose been on a gap year curtosy of mummy and daddy and is dressed a bit scummy/hippy but its actually all from the gap and cost a bomb.he bought some bongo's for that authentic feel!

not much time today for drawing as i had a brilliant day and night out with my old 31b girls molly and sam.we went to a great pizza place and then lots and lots of bars and had a great catchup.mol's off to washington for 10 weeks next month so was a chance to catch up before then. shes off to the smithsonian museum to do an internship making models which is very cool!

was flicking through one of my old uni sketchbooks and saw a werewolf drawing i did waaaay back in 2006 while on break from uni and working at portsmouth city council in the help desk department.and what a thrill that was!done many stints at old pcc and as nice as some of the people were (others were complete dicks) and the variety of different departments and buildings i got to work in,it definately solidfied the fact thta i never want to work in that kind of position again!on the plus side, i doodled a lot on all my stints as a desk jockey and have loads of sketch books full of random doodles and drawings to look back on.

i actually prefer my original sketch i did but this one was rushed and i was trying to make it different.i guess i need to watch more horror stuff again to inspire myself! :D

on a second note, heres someone familiar to the blog but hasn't actually been drawn in a long time...bunny boy! bit different this time, hey,maybe i will develop him further again as i always liked drawing him and the style is my favourite!

day 101!no dalmations i'm afraid but some research drawing. i used the daily zoo as my influence for the day, a dazed racoon, a naked molerat and some dog/bat/stitch like creatures!liking my racoon and the molerat is oddly cute!

next up more influenced fun with 'the illusion of life' being my muse today. i tend to try not to copy and use elements of work in my own pieces so these are part frank thomas and ollie johnstone and part mine. was fun to look through the book again, goddamn heaviest book ever!but so inspiring and beautiful and informative.every line tells a story and conveys emotion. wonderful!

today i decided to research and work from reference. i pulled out my peter de seve sketchbook and found some inspiration.the first drawing is one of his and got me limbered up.then i moved onto a wolf 'seve' style and a unicorn. next up was very version of a toad seve had drawn and my billie character.
i love my artist sketchbooks, they inspire me and keep me sane. there are beautiful pieces of art that just continue to inspire me no matter how many times i see them and make me want to drawn more and more.

FINALLY!its been released so everyone head down and see what we worked on for most of last year.its great although probably not one to take your grandparents to!it is a film built around penis jokes and if thats not your humour well easily offended is not the word.i freaking loved it!MINOTAUR COCK!

day 66- we had a mouse!apparently builders working in the basement disturbed the mice and them made a bid upwards.so we've seen two. anyone who knows me knows i LOVE LOVE LOVE mice (favourite animal, used to own one etc, love drawing them) so this puts me in a predicament as bjarni is most definately gonna get them with his mousetraps ( :( ! ) and i know they are vermin but i love them, they are soooo cute! :( not squished under a trap though. so with mouses on the brains, i sketched a few out of my head, only like the jumping one really, i've done better.

starts off slow with some rushed skelton birds, kind of like skelanimals i suppose.was looking at the rubber duckies on my pjs and made a skeleton version.

next up and after a hectic weekend after seeing the room on friday night (freaking hilarious, best worst movie ever made!) then out and about in east london on sat, hense just the ducks to show for it. i had some time on sunday to sketch an animal in the morning and i reverted to my old fave, a capuchen monkey ie: marcel from friends!although this monkey is not so chipper!

so we move onto day 57!

and today was a new week to work on shots, its also move week as come saturday i am camden bound! i am also very very poor atm due to the flat so in order to buy green day's new album, i had to use up my hmv voucher i got for my birthday.only spending i can do is off gift cards doh!

anyho so in honour of hmv which now owes my last £10 (store credit i suppose so their £10 really) i looked into a bit more of the history of 'his master's voice' (thats what hmv stands for dontcha know. mainly the logo as ive always know for some odd reason the dog is called nipper (i got this right on a test hmv set me when i once applied to be an employee (many moons ago, pre-animation time). so in honour of old nipper and his curious expression at the old grammerphone, heres a nice punked up version of nipper :D
anyway back to the packing.......!

ahhhhhhhhhhhh!horses are driving me crazy!

now thats out my system... day 39 and today was a sad day, was frustrated at work and with how stuff was going so heres my sad hangdog bloodhound for the day

boooo :( day 40 feeling much more happy and with a new found energy i set off to work and had a much better day, although less time for drawing so heres another JOEY!bit lame this time but also a tortoise to make up for it

so we move onto day 41 and work on a saturday booooooooo!i used the time on the tube to rough out some tortoise ideas i had, clinging onto a car and being dragged along and finalised it after work at bjarni's house and was quite pleased with the result.then we settled down to watch...the human centipede?!wtf was that movie its hilarious and very very silly...watch it!

next day and back to work again for day 42 of the daily zoo!!!!!!!!had some time in the morning before heading off to work to draw while eating breakfast...guess which cereal i had? :P

Day 35.... After a relax and see my friend Ashley who gives me a belated birthdat pressie, I draw a Whoopie Pie as mum baked some and they are delicious yum yum!!!!American snack foods rule!!!!!
Also after watching a Red Dwarf omnibus on my mum's t.v I draw a weird robot cat...not to be confused with the character Kat from the show!

It's cold outside theres no kind of atmosphere, all alone, more or less!!!!!!!!!!

Day 36

After a trip to the dentist (owch) I return straight to London for work with a numb face (booooooo!) and carry on til late at work. Then I head to Bjarni's to fill in our paperwork for the new flat...this was time then zoo time and I ended up with a platypus (for my aussie friend Heath!) and a rabbit for Bjarni whose exposed bottom is leaving him a little worried!

day 37 (1st March!)

Wow kept this going now woooo! I love the zoo, it gives me focus no matter how busy or stressed. Today's number was done while waiting for Bjarni to finish work, you guessed it...uber late! Any other job kicks out at 6pm but not VFX we are hardcore! i drew this from Bjarni's desk...it's Buddy Bear, the icelandic polar bear craddling his 'polar beer' that I got him for his desk...

Not much time at all for zoo as deadlines loom...heres some rough pen sketches I made:

Day 33 Foo-day!!!!!!!!

Today I finish work slightly earlier than the last few nigths (10pm eeek!) and go see my favourite band in the whole wide world the Foo Fighters :D

Its a good day also for a number of reasons, knowing I can't take my sketchbook into the front of a mosh pit, I plan ahead and draw 2 drawings after midnight (so technically Friday) and sketch out a drumming fool... (could be an excited me!) and a rabbit girl. I then add a seal to the mix at 8am, happy that I will continue the zoo the next day as normal after Foo-day is done.
Then at work we get a great suprise...We got our flat!!!!Woo! So I head off to Wembley Arena a very happy bunny indeed....And they were fantastic! Check out my fb for more pics....

POKER TIME!
After finishing work and heading down to Bjarni's floor, I found my friend's Sam and Sean playing Bjarni in a game of poker. After gaining some...interesting suggestions from Sam on what to add to the zoo today, I ended up with a warthog and an axolotl (think thats the spelling?!)...the world's happiest salamander! Very cute, please google him! I then joined the game and lost...oh well!

After a short evening out, we then moved onto Day 27.............Househunt day eeeeeekkk! A day of rushing around to find a place to live. Not too much luck but booked solid all enxt week in lunchbreaks so fingers crossed for a good one! The day was knackering but good in the evening after we headed to a local pub to meet Sean and his girlf for the secret comedy club where we saw a secret gig of the wonderful Dave Gorman (of googlewack fame) and Chris Addison which was brilliant :) Then we collapsed back at Bjarni's! So in honour of 'moving' theme I drew a hermit crab, because they move house as it were by getting a new shell when they like... Also theres a guy straining to pick up a rock....drawn far too near the top of the paper and a fox and a tiny dog!So onto Day 28 we go...and the tiredness continues as I am a fool and...HEAD TO WORK ON A SUNDAY eeeek! It's not too bad and I get a lot done, hence not much zoo-age til later. We head to see 'Paul' the new Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movie (whom I adore) and its great quite geeky and funny. So the zoo creature of the day is quite similar to the main star....and he's out of this world!

Day 29 and back to work again! Today's is a mix bag...the main picture inspired by Luke who I sit with...the DuckTigre!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had some time to sketch today using the new Disney books...here are three pages of good old fashioned blue pencil sketches. One's my Billie character I always draw, a man, a young girl and the rest are animals including Vampire Cat's first foray into the daily zoo!!!!!!!!!!

Day 22.......... And there he is again! Monday morning means only one thing on my mind..Warhorse...so heres another Joey for you :D

Another animal to note is Petunia the spider. I doodled her after a lunchtime chat about my friend Andi and her bizarre choice in next pet although it won't be happening if Adam gets his way! She watched a clip about a giant bird eating spider called zilla that was a pet and boy was she huge. The size of a small dog heheh, I actually thought she was quite cute for a spider (too big really, it was like a dog scurring around) although I certainly would not like her on me! I promptly sent my arachniphobic mother the video making sure to delete all traces of the word spider so she was not best pleased with me muhahahah!

Onto the next day: Day 23 is a pathetic addition to The Daily Zoo, I can only apologise...Too many house viewing stuff to sort out and too much work left me with zero time for scribbles so heres the result...rubbish!

Day 24:

Hopefully brings better attempts than that sorry state!
Heres two pages, one is just a couple of animal doodles, a duck and a cute squishee bear, then the next page is inspired by my new books Bjarni got me for Valentines Day. They are written by legendary Disney artist Walt Stanchfield and the two volumes are called: Drawn to Life: 20 Years of Disney Masterclasses. This was the guy who taught drawing,sketching, life drawing and animation to people at the Disney Studios. The guy himself worked there from the 50's up til towards the end of the century and taught newer Disney legends his craft (Glen Keane, Brad Bird, Tim Burton and John Lasseter to name a few). The books are great full of inspirational drawings and I look forward to pouring over the teachings and maybe influencing what appears on this blog in the future, Great gift Bjarni thank you!xxx

Days 20 and 21

Day 20: Saturday arrives and crazy flat hunting commences..very busy. Had time to doodle this little sketch of a kangeroo meeting a croc.

Then after watching the oddly disturbing and hilarious and sad movie 'Grizzly Man' about a guy who spends 13 summers living with bears in remote Alaska and then ultimatly gets eaten by one, I felt like adding a bear to today's proceedings.Day21: Still felt in a bear mood on the Sunday so heres some more bears and a odd 'kevin from UP' kinda bird I doodled before an excellent day at London Dungeon and walking from London Bridge to Oxford Circus via all sorts of things, Mounument, St Paul's, fancy malls, Yates dinners, Long Island Ice Teas and westerns starring Jeff Bridges (True Grit).

Roll up!!!!!!!!!!!!Due to insane business and finding a new flat-ness (eeek!) I have been slow on the upload of the zoo this last week. Although no matter how little time, I've always managed something for the day so onwards there will be a few posts :P

Day 16: Pub Doodling......Heres what happens when you go meet your friends after work for a quick lesson in poker, I doodled these while waiting for their game to finish so I could join in...pretty random collection..hamsters, old fashioned policemen and snazzy snakes!

After that little collection, we move onto day 17 which was done after watching the new movie 'The Fighter' at the cinema. Pretty decent flick go check it out. Note there are no boxing dogs in the movie unfortunatly...just Marky-Mark Wahlberg and Christian 'I'm BATMAN' Bale!

Day 18: Is pretty poor, tube drawings of some guys done after an afternoon watching some animated college sitcoms..meh..I have better characters in me!

Lastly day 19: Done while waiting for renders of my most lovely horse roto of Joey.....I doodled a duck (after seeing Kate's comp with a goose in it) and then fell back to drawing from the screen...Joey again. Prepare for lots of horses people....

Days 13, 14 and 15!

Here we go! After a most lovely birthday came more hecticness! As my friends came up from Pompey for a visit and a night out in Camden....was great fun! So short on doodling time, after Bjarni showed me a web comic with lobsters i drew... a sort of lobster thing!

Day 14....TWO WEEKS people! I've kept up my daily zoo so far :D

So after a heavy night out, Sarah and nat hung around and as HUGE Beatles fans decided to go see the famous Abbey Road Studios and 'The' Crossing from the album cover....

And here's the note I wrote on the wall of the studio:

Needless to say a tad inspired did some late night Beatles related doodles..liking my Ringo and John and the rough sketch of my tatt.

Overal great weekend!

Now to day 15:

As you can imagine working on a movie with a horse for a lead character means after 10 hours of staring at old Joey, horses kind of infiltrate your brain a tad! I actually like drawing them after a project the first year of uni where we had to animate one, walking, cantering, trotting, running jumping, turning, eating...you name it we had to animate it. It made a hard animal to draw a lot easier so now I kid of remember the rules etc. Tonight I decided to draw a few quick body sketches (not great but ok) and then a mean looking mowhawk-y stallion thats got a bone to pick with you :D

Day 12 AKA MY 25TH BIRTHDAY!

Good day, although lots of work to do and things to sort out so very hectic! Thought what to draw? What to draw? Hmm how about me?! So I did :D I did indeed get cake from Lee and Adam, Hummingbird cake to be precise! Went for lunch with my friends from Bournemouth Molly and Jon which was lovely. Lots of cards and little pressies but best of all...Bjarni spoilt me rotten! I had a suprise dinner at The Savoy Grill in The Savoy Hotel (uber posh!) then he took me to see 'Ghost Stories' the cool Horror play thats running, was great although hilarious and not (to me anyway) scary! The guy's wetting their pants with their coats over their heads in front of me however seemed scared shitless hahahah!
All in all a wonderful day :) xxxx

Days: 10 and 11

First up! Day 10
We have some quick rushed studies as i'm hard at work atm (deadlines and all that) but did a few days in a row where i drew an animal then a few quick varients.

First up: my favourite animal in the world...a mouse :D

Drawn during a mini Prep Station meeting with Lee, still feels weird not being there anymore but things change I guess gotta keep rolling!

Anyway the small fat ball mouse is for Adam as he likes that little doodle character when I draw it!

Next up day 11:

Foxes!
Did this sketch on the tube, was unsure what to draw then thought dog and then as i did the head thought hmmm no more feline like actually fox! I then worked into it a little at home and did the quick face sketch from reference.

Days 6, 7, 8 and 9...

Yikes thats a lot of updates! So days 6,7,8 AND 9 arrive! First up is Saturday's choice...a content looking frog.drawn in the living room of my mum's house while she watched shit tv! He's nice nothing fancy but in good ol' blue pencil first then outlined in HB.
URRGGGG! The next drawings are awful...went out for a night out with friends on the saturday....a picture of a spontanius daily zoo will grace this wall soon (when Em sends me the picture
lol!) but til then these are the pitiful attemps i made on Sunday afternoon, not hungover just tired and uninspired to draw.Very lazy but at least I tried 3 times!

Right to make up for that mess, after a lovely day of lunch at Las Iguanas with mum and some birthday shopping for the both of us, it was time to return to LondonTown....only National Rail had other plans......I got to the station at 3.30...I got back to Brixton at 8pm! (This is usually a 2hour at the maxium trip btw) damn electrical faults and squished trains urghh!Luckily Bjarni met me at the station to make me feel better :) All this train time gave me the chance to do a detailed character sketch. Based off the mexican/latino vide from the resturant I drew 'Bandito' the Mexican Raccoon! Like the design and could add some colour in future as I had plenty of time to work on the linework!

Finally Day 9 and the day of the start of my new job (same studio, different position). Needless to say it was a little overwhelming but good to concentrate on something and have a more artisic imput. I'm working on 'Warhorse', which is based off a book that got made into a play and is now a movie by a certain Mr Spielberg! Very exciting and challenging. Hopefully the movie will be great. As I was busy today, this was sketched out on the steps of our main staircase late at work and really captures how I felt this morning, wacom at the ready and paintwork galore waiting.....Here's Joey!

DaY 4 and 5!

Here are the posts for days 4 and 5...done while at work. The first one was after reading a news story about a gorilla at Kent Zoo that has taught himself to walk upright like a human...the video made me laugh so I figured draw from life (well the screen) of some in action shots and I liked the back profile quite a bit as it's a different view to usual sketches....so here he is:

Next up is Friday wooooo! I was on my way back to Pompey that evening for my early birthday celebrations with friends and family so decided to get a haircut for the occasion. This inspired me to draw a hairdresser themed daily zoo..which wnded up being.. Barry the Walrus Barber!

I also found out I start my new job on Tuesday when I return..........a junior compositor at Framestore! Nervous eeeek!

Back in the Motherland!

Am back home for my mum's birthday (and mine aswell) which actually are next Thurs and Fri but we've decided to hold them early together. Thus Daily Zoo updates will be online on MOnday via my scanner back in LondonTown! Am really pleased with Days 4 and 5, some realistic drawing and one based off my decision to finally get a haircut lol!Days 6, 7 and 8 to come too!What shall I draw for day 6?!

Day 2 and 3!

RIGHT! off to a good start, here are days 2 and 3! first up we have a girl i sketched, in about a minute after doing a longer sketch and just not being happy with it...so i carried on drawing and heres the results...

i definately prefered the quickness and capture of the wishfullness in this one. although it was done at 1.30am! so after that 'cheat', i decided to do another skecth for the day. this one i wanna develop further so here is the rough pencil sketch for now of a gecko. i'm hoping some of the drawings in this experiment will be quick and finished and others can be revisited and continued.i hope to return to this critter soon and flesh his line work out and maybe shock horror add colour! :P

day 3!
did a quick sketch on the way into work this morning on the tube..gahh i get nervous drawing in public, people always look!you'd think after a fair few years of whipping the sketchbook out in public i'd be fine but i'm still conscious of it. heres a quick sketch of a genie (?!)lastly ian gave me the idea for today's actual drawing although i'm not happy at all with it and thought i'd try some quick colour to make it better...hmmm no. it's of our movie star/director whore SIMON PIG! yes the legend himself!i'm determined to do a better caricature of old simon so will keep working on it. i like to think you can learn from everything you draw, even the bad stuff so thats why this rough version is included and i hope to add a far better version soon!

My Daily Zoo

Inspired by Chris Ayres and his epic 'Daily Zoo' (drawing an animal everyday for a year) Buy the book its wonderful, beautiful and so heartwarming. After my friend India decided as her new years resolution to draw something everyday, I thought I'd love to do that and in turn reminded myself of this excellent book I've scored over many times for inspiration. So I'm (hopefully) starting now 24/01/11 (well thats yesterday as it's past midnight now but I drew the picture before midnight!). I may not update the blog everyday and do a few at a time in a bit as dependant on work and my time constraints,it may not be possible but i hope to at least draw something (big or small) everyday for the next year to keep my passion alive!

so heres the first......no idea why a gorrilla....(maybe seeing Glen Keane yesterday and the Tarzan influence got to me) but here's my quick ink pen ape, photographed as no time to scan!

The Parr Man's Retirement

This month, the course leader of my degree course in Bournemouth retired from teaching. I have Pete to thank for everything, as if he hadn't of given the young Disney-obsessed me a chance, (despite not having the required foundation course in fine art and being younger than everyone) I wouldn't be where I am today. And I certainly wouldn't have learnt half as much as I did and met all of the fantastic people I did over the three years and beyond. We were asked as alumni to draw a quick sketch for Pete's retirement book. I did it finally (thanks Tony!) and today received a lovely email from Pete thanking me for it. So figured I'd post it. I wish I'd had more time on it but I definately captured the classic 'Parr expression' !!!!
