Days: 10 and 11

First up! Day 10
We have some quick rushed studies as i'm hard at work atm (deadlines and all that) but did a few days in a row where i drew an animal then a few quick varients.

First up: my favourite animal in the world...a mouse :D

Drawn during a mini Prep Station meeting with Lee, still feels weird not being there anymore but things change I guess gotta keep rolling!

Anyway the small fat ball mouse is for Adam as he likes that little doodle character when I draw it!





Next up day 11:

Foxes!
Did this sketch on the tube, was unsure what to draw then thought dog and then as i did the head thought hmmm no more feline like actually fox! I then worked into it a little at home and did the quick face sketch from reference.

Days 6, 7, 8 and 9...

Yikes thats a lot of updates! So days 6,7,8 AND 9 arrive! First up is Saturday's choice...a content looking frog.drawn in the living room of my mum's house while she watched shit tv! He's nice nothing fancy but in good ol' blue pencil first then outlined in HB.
URRGGGG! The next drawings are awful...went out for a night out with friends on the saturday....a picture of a spontanius daily zoo will grace this wall soon (when Em sends me the picture
lol!) but til then these are the pitiful attemps i made on Sunday afternoon, not hungover just tired and uninspired to draw.Very lazy but at least I tried 3 times!

Right to make up for that mess, after a lovely day of lunch at Las Iguanas with mum and some birthday shopping for the both of us, it was time to return to LondonTown....only National Rail had other plans......I got to the station at 3.30...I got back to Brixton at 8pm! (This is usually a 2hour at the maxium trip btw) damn electrical faults and squished trains urghh!Luckily Bjarni met me at the station to make me feel better :) All this train time gave me the chance to do a detailed character sketch. Based off the mexican/latino vide from the resturant I drew 'Bandito' the Mexican Raccoon! Like the design and could add some colour in future as I had plenty of time to work on the linework!

Finally Day 9 and the day of the start of my new job (same studio, different position). Needless to say it was a little overwhelming but good to concentrate on something and have a more artisic imput. I'm working on 'Warhorse', which is based off a book that got made into a play and is now a movie by a certain Mr Spielberg! Very exciting and challenging. Hopefully the movie will be great. As I was busy today, this was sketched out on the steps of our main staircase late at work and really captures how I felt this morning, wacom at the ready and paintwork galore waiting.....Here's Joey!

DaY 4 and 5!

Here are the posts for days 4 and 5...done while at work. The first one was after reading a news story about a gorilla at Kent Zoo that has taught himself to walk upright like a human...the video made me laugh so I figured draw from life (well the screen) of some in action shots and I liked the back profile quite a bit as it's a different view to usual sketches....so here he is:

Next up is Friday wooooo! I was on my way back to Pompey that evening for my early birthday celebrations with friends and family so decided to get a haircut for the occasion. This inspired me to draw a hairdresser themed daily zoo..which wnded up being.. Barry the Walrus Barber!

I also found out I start my new job on Tuesday when I return..........a junior compositor at Framestore! Nervous eeeek!

Back in the Motherland!

Am back home for my mum's birthday (and mine aswell) which actually are next Thurs and Fri but we've decided to hold them early together. Thus Daily Zoo updates will be online on MOnday via my scanner back in LondonTown! Am really pleased with Days 4 and 5, some realistic drawing and one based off my decision to finally get a haircut lol!Days 6, 7 and 8 to come too!What shall I draw for day 6?!

Day 2 and 3!

RIGHT! off to a good start, here are days 2 and 3! first up we have a girl i sketched, in about a minute after doing a longer sketch and just not being happy with it...so i carried on drawing and heres the results...

i definately prefered the quickness and capture of the wishfullness in this one. although it was done at 1.30am! so after that 'cheat', i decided to do another skecth for the day. this one i wanna develop further so here is the rough pencil sketch for now of a gecko. i'm hoping some of the drawings in this experiment will be quick and finished and others can be revisited and continued.i hope to return to this critter soon and flesh his line work out and maybe shock horror add colour! :P


day 3!
did a quick sketch on the way into work this morning on the tube..gahh i get nervous drawing in public, people always look!you'd think after a fair few years of whipping the sketchbook out in public i'd be fine but i'm still conscious of it. heres a quick sketch of a genie (?!)lastly ian gave me the idea for today's actual drawing although i'm not happy at all with it and thought i'd try some quick colour to make it better...hmmm no. it's of our movie star/director whore SIMON PIG! yes the legend himself!i'm determined to do a better caricature of old simon so will keep working on it. i like to think you can learn from everything you draw, even the bad stuff so thats why this rough version is included and i hope to add a far better version soon!

My Daily Zoo

Inspired by Chris Ayres and his epic 'Daily Zoo' (drawing an animal everyday for a year) Buy the book its wonderful, beautiful and so heartwarming. After my friend India decided as her new years resolution to draw something everyday, I thought I'd love to do that and in turn reminded myself of this excellent book I've scored over many times for inspiration. So I'm (hopefully) starting now 24/01/11 (well thats yesterday as it's past midnight now but I drew the picture before midnight!). I may not update the blog everyday and do a few at a time in a bit as dependant on work and my time constraints,it may not be possible but i hope to at least draw something (big or small) everyday for the next year to keep my passion alive!

so heres the first......no idea why a gorrilla....(maybe seeing Glen Keane yesterday and the Tarzan influence got to me) but here's my quick ink pen ape, photographed as no time to scan!

The Parr Man's Retirement

This month, the course leader of my degree course in Bournemouth retired from teaching. I have Pete to thank for everything, as if he hadn't of given the young Disney-obsessed me a chance, (despite not having the required foundation course in fine art and being younger than everyone) I wouldn't be where I am today. And I certainly wouldn't have learnt half as much as I did and met all of the fantastic people I did over the three years and beyond. We were asked as alumni to draw a quick sketch for Pete's retirement book. I did it finally (thanks Tony!) and today received a lovely email from Pete thanking me for it. So figured I'd post it. I wish I'd had more time on it but I definately captured the classic 'Parr expression' !!!!
